True that the preferred term in most of the world nowadays is simply "black".

It's still pretty weird that they included such a racially charged question in their entrance examinations though, wouldn't you agree? LOL.

Were those ACET questions written by Filipinos? Or, were they lifted from an American test booklet published 60 years ago? LOL. I had a similar experience when I took the entrance exam at one of those schools in QC. I'm sure you did well.

In the USA, the term "negro" is archaic, and nowadays not really considered racist nor is it a slur. It's just a term from a bygone era. Also, "Afro-American" is a bit outdated. In the USA, blacks refer to themselves as either "African American", "Black American", or plainly, "black". You can ask them politely and they will tell you. In the UK, they call themselves "black". However, people of African descent who live in Spanish-speaking parts of the world call themselves "negro". In Africa, they call themselves simply, "Africans".

Grade 4 ako naka pa NSPC ako representing region 12, pagka next year di ba naman ako naka pasok RSPC hahaha, pero pagka grade six ko nakuha ko ulit ang 1st place sa RSPC so i made it to NSPC 09 naga city hahaha! yun nga lang di ako nanalo sa NS

hello dean! taga-asa ka sa bxu? i'm also from bxu but i'm working in cebu. this blog entry made me nostalgic about my NSPC experiences back in '98 and '02. hahay! memorable jud kaayo ang NSPC. i competed in feature writing-english pag-elementary in tandag, then editorial writing-english in high school at gensan. wala ko ka-place sa NSPC but the experience was truly unforgettable: meeting new friends who have the same passion, visiting new places. and somehow i feel proud to be one of those budding writers. hope you do well in your next stint. good luck!
