The spacing between the sidebar widgets is my fault, not the code's -- when I type in a widget, I always put a <br> on both ends of it. I'm removing one of 'em then. As for typography, I LOOOVE Georgia, but I've also been wanting to try Verdana. So, I'll see if I can spare some time to change my fonts.
